Lady Night Shifts

<Lady Night Shifts> is an interactive sculpture, which connects with the societal expectations of women's identity, and narrates the contradiction between the so-called body protection for women under the patriarchal society and the real physical injuries suffered by women who work at night to meet social needs.

Female bodies are consuming by night shifts.
Since women are encouraged to go out to work and gradually step out of their homes, women often need to make more sacrifices to prove equal social status with men in a male-dominated workplace. Many female-dominated occupations require women to adapt to long-term night shift work (nurses, doctors, factory workers, flight attendants, etc.), which has caused high health risks in women. The relationship between night shift work and the risk of breast cancer has become closer.
Unfortunately, this abnormal work nature of the ‘night shift’ derived from the rapid development of society should not be a measure of male or female workability.

However, Chinese law has incomplete regulations on night work and overtime work, and the protection system for women’s night shift work is also very insufficient. The current night shift protection measures are only taken when women need to give birth or breastfeed. These ironic legal regulations seem to say that the health risks can be ignored if women are not pregnant or lactating.

请从地上拾起它,高高悬挂在给予它庇护的大树上;
请感受它的卑微,触摸它的温柔;

Night is coming,
When it emits a faint light,
please pick it up from the ground and hang it high on the tree that shelters it;
please feel its humbleness,
touch its tenderness;
please take it off, suck it, consume it,
and finally, discard it in any corner of lifelessness...
